ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

A bra lift focuses on excess skin and folds in the upper back and side areas, often referred to as bra rolls. These folds may develop after substantial weight loss or loss of skin elasticity and can remain visible even when body weight is stable.

The procedure is not intended to remove fat alone. It addresses redundant skin that may not respond to exercise or liposuction when significant laxity is present. Excess skin and tissue are removed from the upper back and sides, then the remaining tissues are tightened to improve the way the back looks beneath clothing and around the bra line.

  • Removes loose skin and folds along the bra line
  • Improves the contour of the upper back and sides
  • Treats skin laxity after significant weight loss
  • Scar is typically planned to sit within the bra line

INDICATIONS

Have visible skin folds on the upper back or sides when wearing bras or fitted clothing.
Have lost a substantial amount of weight and have remaining loose skin around the bra line.
Experience irritation, rubbing, or discomfort from loose skin on the back and sides.
Find that clothing does not fit comfortably because of upper-back skin folds.
Have a stable weight and general health suitable for surgery.
Understand that the procedure leaves a relatively long horizontal scar that can usually be concealed beneath a bra or suitable clothing.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Skin laxity is mild and a less invasive option may be more appropriate after assessment.
Weight is unstable or significant further weight loss is expected.
BMI remains high enough that weight reduction should be addressed first.
Uncontrolled health conditions, bleeding disorders, or healing concerns increase surgical risk.
The patient smokes and cannot follow cessation requirements before and after surgery.
Expectations do not account for the scar, recovery period, or the limits of improvement.

HOW THE PROCEDURE WORKS

[ 05 ]

Assessment and planning

The upper-back folds, side tissue, and skin elasticity are assessed while standing and moving. The surgeon determines the amount of skin to be removed and plans the incision along the bra line from one side to the other, where it can be concealed as much as possible by clothing.

During surgery

  • The procedure is generally performed under general anaesthesia.
  • A horizontal incision is made across the upper back within the planned bra-line area.
  • A controlled amount of excess skin and fat is removed from the upper back and sides.
  • The remaining tissues are tightened to smooth the back contour and reduce visible folds.
  • Incisions are closed with fine sutures, and drains may be used in selected cases to limit fluid collection.
  • Compression garments support the back during early recovery.

RESULT

An early improvement in upper-back and side contour is visible after surgery, but normal swelling means the final result develops gradually. Over the following months, skin folds become less prominent and the back appears smoother and more proportionate beneath clothing.

The objective of a bra lift is to remove excess skin that creates folds along the bra line and improve back contour, not to create an exaggerated body transformation. Stable weight and appropriate scar care support longer-lasting results.

  • Clear reduction in upper-back and side skin folds
  • Smoother contour along the bra line
  • Progressive improvement in scar quality and shape over time
  • Weight stability supports long-term results
