Who may be a suitable candidate for Tummy Tuck?

August 22, 2026

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess abdominal skin and address weakened or separated abdominal muscles, creating a firmer, more balanced abdominal contour.

INDICATIONS

A tummy tuck may be suitable for patients who:

  • Have excess or loose abdominal skin after pregnancy or notable weight loss.
  • Have weakness or separation of the abdominal muscles, especially after pregnancy.
  • Have localized abdominal fullness and skin laxity that do not improve with exercise and lifestyle changes alone.
  • Have lost skin elasticity in the abdominal area with age or genetic factors.
  • Are in good general health and maintain a reasonably stable weight.
  • Have realistic expectations regarding scars, recovery, and gradual improvement

CONTRAINDICATIONS

The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be postponed, when:

  • Pregnancy is planned soon, as it may affect the abdominal muscles, skin, and surgical result.
  • Weight is unstable or major weight loss is expected soon.
  • Body weight or BMI is high enough that weight reduction should be addressed first for safety and improved outcomes.
  • Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or healing concerns increase surgical and anaesthetic risk.
  • The patient smokes and cannot follow preoperative cessation requirements.
  • Expectations assume a scar-free abdomen, treatment for general obesity, or an unrealistic transformation
