When may Total Body Lift not be suitable?
August 22, 2026
A total body lift is a comprehensive surgical plan designed to improve loose skin across multiple body areas after major weight loss, reshaping the body through carefully staged or combined lifting procedures.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
A total body lift may need to be postponed or reconsidered when:
- Weight is still changing significantly.
- Pregnancy is planned soon and may affect the abdomen and body contour.
- Uncontrolled health conditions affect cardiac, respiratory, bleeding, or wound-healing safety.
- The patient smokes and cannot follow cessation instructions before and after surgery.
- BMI remains high enough that weight reduction should be addressed first.
- Expectations involve a complete transformation without scars or a substantial recovery period.
- The patient is not ready to follow postoperative guidance, nutrition recommendations, gradual mobilization, and follow-up care.
INDICATIONS
A total body lift may be suitable for patients who:
- Have lost a substantial amount of weight and have loose skin in more than one area.
- Have excess skin affecting the abdomen, flanks, back, buttocks, arms, or thighs.
- Experience friction, discomfort with movement, or difficulty dressing because of loose skin.
- Have maintained a stable weight for an adequate period before surgery.
- Are in good general health and suitable for major surgery or a staged surgical plan.
- Understand that scars are part of the trade-off for removing excess skin and improving contour.
