What is Thigh Lift? A patient-friendly guide to the procedure

August 22, 2026

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat and tightens loose tissue to improve thigh contour and reduce discomfort from skin friction, particularly after major weight loss or loss of skin elasticity.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

A thigh lift, also called thighplasty, addresses loose skin that may develop on the inner or outer thighs after weight loss, with ageing, or due to individual skin characteristics. When there is significant excess skin, liposuction alone is often not enough because the primary concern is skin laxity rather than fat alone.

The procedure is tailored to the location and degree of laxity. It may be limited to the upper inner thigh, extend from the groin area toward the knee, or address the outer thigh. In cases of severe laxity after major weight loss, a more extensive approach may be needed to treat multiple surfaces of the thigh.

  • Removes excess skin and laxity from the thighs
  • Improves the inner thigh, outer thigh, or both according to need
  • May reduce friction and discomfort caused by skin folds
  • Technique is selected based on the location and degree of skin laxity
