Who may be a suitable candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

August 22, 2026

Gynecomastia surgery is designed to reduce enlarged male tissue and create a flatter, more defined chest contour through treatment tailored to excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin laxity.

INDICATIONS

Gynecomastia surgery may be suitable for patients who:

  • Have chest enlargement that does not improve sufficiently with exercise or weight management.
  • Have fat-related, gland-related, or mixed gynecomastia.
  • Experience tenderness, discomfort, or friction in the chest area.
  • Avoid fitted clothing, swimming, or activities involving a bare chest because of embarrassment or discomfort.
  • Have had a stable condition for an adequate period, without major change after weight adjustment or treatment of an identified hormonal cause.
  • Are in good general health and maintain a relatively stable weight.
  • Have realistic expectations about recovery, small scars, and the gradual evolution of results.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be postponed, when:

  • Hormonal development is not complete, as some cases may improve naturally over time.
  • The hormonal or medication-related cause of enlargement has not been investigated or treated.
  • Weight is unstable or substantial weight gain is planned.
  • Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or healing concerns increase surgical risk.
  • The patient smokes and cannot follow the required cessation plan before surgery.
  • There is an unexplained lump, cyst, or change requiring medical assessment first.
  • Expectations assume a perfect chest without scars or without following postoperative recovery guidance.
