When may Buttock Lift not be suitable?

August 22, 2026

A buttock lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and tightens loose tissue to improve buttock shape and elevation after weight loss or skin laxity, without relying on added volume.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be delayed, when:

  • The primary goal is a substantial increase in buttock volume, as a buttock lift alone does not add volume.
  • Weight is unstable or significant further weight loss is expected.
  • Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or healing concerns increase surgical and anaesthetic risk.
  • The patient smokes and cannot follow cessation requirements before and after surgery.
  • Expectations assume a perfect shape without scars or with an extremely short recovery period.
  • There is an active skin infection or inflammatory condition in the treatment area.

INDICATIONS

A buttock lift may be suitable for patients who:

  • Have loose or excess skin in the buttock area, particularly after major weight loss.
  • Notice loss of buttock elevation or definition with lax skin.
  • Have buttocks that appear flat or low because of skin laxity, not simply lack of volume.
  • Have lost skin elasticity with ageing or due to individual factors.
  • Are in good general health and maintain a reasonably stable weight.
  • Understand that surgery improves shape and lift but leaves a surgical scar that matures over time.
