Who may be a suitable candidate for Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?
August 22, 2026
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin, tightening surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipple and areola for a more elevated, balanced breast contour.
INDICATIONS
A breast lift may be suitable for patients who:
- Have noticeable breast sagging or flattening.
- Notice that the nipples or areolas sit low on the breast or point downward.
- Have lost breast shape or firmness after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or aging.
- Have a difference in breast shape or degree of sagging between the two sides.
- Have adequate breast volume but want improved position and contour rather than a major size increase.
- Are in good general health and maintain a reasonably stable weight.
- Understand that surgery improves breast shape and elevation but leaves permanent scars that mature over time.Breast
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be delayed, when:
- Pregnancy is planned soon, as it may affect breast shape and surgical results.
- Weight is unstable or significant weight changes are expected.
- A substantial increase in breast size is the main priority; a combined lift and augmentation plan may be more appropriate after assessment.
- Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or healing concerns increase surgical risk.
- The patient smokes and cannot follow the required cessation plan before surgery.
- There are unexplained breast lumps, cysts, or changes that require specialist evaluation first.
- Expectations assume scar-free results or guarantee that breast position will never change with aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations.Breast
