Who may be a suitable candidate for Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)?
August 22, 2026
An arm lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms, from the underarm to the elbow, creating smoother and more defined arm contours after weight loss or skin laxity.
INDICATIONS
An arm lift may be suitable for patients who:
- Have excess or loose skin on the upper arms.
- Have arm fullness and laxity that do not improve sufficiently with exercise or diet.
- Have lost a significant amount of weight and developed hanging arm skin.
- Notice reduced skin elasticity with age.
- Are in good general health and maintain a reasonably stable weight.
- Understand that the operation improves arm contour but leaves a surgical scar that matures gradually.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be postponed, when:
- Skin laxity is mild and the skin remains elastic enough that liposuction alone may be sufficient after assessment.
- Expectations assume that no scar will be visible in any arm position.
- Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or wound-healing concerns increase surgical risk.
- The patient smokes and cannot follow preoperative and postoperative cessation requirements.
- Weight is unstable or substantial further weight loss is expected.
- There is an active skin infection or inflammatory condition in the arm area.
