Scar revision surgery is designed to improve the appearance, position, texture, or tension of a scar when it is wide, raised, depressed, tight, or affects comfort and movement.

A scar cannot be completely erased, but in many cases it can be improved so that it becomes less visible, smoother, and better aligned with the natural lines of the skin. Scar revision may involve removing the old scar, releasing tight tissue, and carefully closing the skin to reduce tension and improve healing.

Scars vary widely. They may result from previous surgery, injury, burns, deep wounds, or past inflammation. For this reason, no single technique suits every scar. The treatment plan depends on the age, location, width, thickness, tension, relation to muscles or joints, surrounding skin quality, and the patient’s personal healing tendency.
