Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) results: realistic expectations and consultation planning

August 22, 2026

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids to restore a fresher, more youthful appearance to the eyes, while improving vision in select cases.

RESULT

A clear improvement in eye openness and freshness is visible after surgery, with swelling and bruising gradually resolving over the following days and weeks. When upper eyelid skin previously obstructed vision, peripheral vision may improve. In the lower eyelid, puffiness and dark circles decrease, and the transition between the eye and cheek becomes smoother.

The goal is a more youthful, refreshed appearance that preserves natural eye expression, not a change that makes the eyes look unfamiliar. Scars are typically concealed within the eyelid crease or beneath the lashes.

  • More open and refreshed eyes
  • Reduced under-eye puffiness and dark circles
  • Improved peripheral vision when relevant
  • Scars concealed within natural eyelid lines

After surgery

  • Mild swelling and bruising around the eyes are expected during the first days.
  • Temporary dryness or slightly blurred vision may occur.
  • Cold compresses are recommended, along with avoiding eye rubbing or excessive visual strain early on.
  • Follow-up visits monitor healing, swelling, and symmetry between the eyes.
