When may Thigh Lift not be suitable?

August 22, 2026

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat and tightens loose tissue to improve thigh contour and reduce discomfort from skin friction, particularly after major weight loss or loss of skin elasticity.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be delayed, when:

  • Weight is unstable or substantial additional weight loss is expected soon.
  • Pregnancy is planned soon and may affect weight and body contour.
  • Skin laxity is very mild and a less extensive option may be suitable after assessment.
  • Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or wound-healing concerns increase surgical risk.
  • The patient smokes and cannot follow preoperative and postoperative cessation requirements.
  • Expectations do not account for scars, recovery time, or the realistic limits of improvement.

INDICATIONS

A thigh lift may be suitable for patients who:

  • Have excess or loose thigh skin, especially after substantial weight loss.
  • Experience painful friction or recurrent irritation between the thighs because of excess skin.
  • Have localized fat combined with skin laxity that does not improve adequately with exercise and diet.
  • Notice reduced skin elasticity in the thighs with ageing.
  • Find clothing or everyday activity uncomfortable because of loose thigh skin.
  • Are in good general health and maintain a reasonably stable weight.
  • Understand that surgery improves thigh contour but leaves scars that mature gradually over time.
