When may Bra Lift not be suitable?
August 22, 2026
A bra lift is a surgical procedure designed to remove loose skin and visible folds from the upper back and sides along the bra line, creating a smoother and more balanced back contour.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be delayed, when:
- Skin laxity is mild and a less invasive option may be more appropriate after assessment.
- Weight is unstable or significant further weight loss is expected.
- BMI remains high enough that weight reduction should be addressed first.
- Uncontrolled health conditions, bleeding disorders, or healing concerns increase surgical risk.
- The patient smokes and cannot follow cessation requirements before and after surgery.
- Expectations do not account for the scar, recovery period, or the limits of improvement.
INDICATIONS
A bra lift may be suitable for patients who:
- Have visible skin folds on the upper back or sides when wearing bras or fitted clothing.
- Have lost a substantial amount of weight and have remaining loose skin around the bra line.
- Experience irritation, rubbing, or discomfort from loose skin on the back and sides.
- Find that clothing does not fit comfortably because of upper-back skin folds.
- Have a stable weight and general health suitable for surgery.
- Understand that the procedure leaves a relatively long horizontal scar that can usually be concealed beneath a bra or suitable clothing.
