Who may be a suitable candidate for Lower Body Lift?
August 22, 2026
A lower body lift is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and improve the contour of the lower abdomen, waist, buttocks, lower back, and upper thighs, particularly after significant weight loss or extensive skin laxity.
INDICATIONS
A lower body lift may be suitable for patients who:
- Have visible loose skin in the lower abdomen, flanks, lower back, and buttocks.
- Have lost a large amount of weight and have excess skin around the lower body.
- Notice buttock descent or flattening with loose skin around the waist.
- Experience friction, heaviness, or difficulty dressing because of excess skin.
- Maintain a stable weight and are in good general health for surgery.
- Understand that the scar extends around the lower body and can be planned to sit within underwear or swimwear lines.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The procedure may not be appropriate, or may need to be postponed, when:
- Weight is still unstable or significant additional weight loss is planned.
- Pregnancy is planned soon and may affect the abdominal wall, skin, and result.
- BMI is high enough that weight reduction should be addressed first.
- Uncontrolled medical conditions, bleeding disorders, or significant heart and respiratory concerns are present.
- The patient smokes and cannot follow cessation instructions before and after surgery.
- Expectations are unrealistic regarding scars, recovery time, or the ability to perfect every body area in one procedure.
